2nd Edition

Review by Andrew Novick

Summary: A guide to the conventions of Web design.

Written mostly for graphic designers, this book describes how to go about building a well designed web site.  It sticks to most of the now very standard conventions of web design and explains why the design techniques in wide spread use are the best choice given the current state of web technology.

Useful chapters cover the details of page design:

  • Typography

  • Graphics

  • Layout

  • Multimedia

Overall I got quite a bit out of the book.  I'm coming at the subject from the technologists point of view.  I found the explanations of technical topics understandable without every getting very technical.  I'm sure that most non-technical readers will find it quite understandable.
