The Problem:   Installation of a COM+ application .MSI file fails.

Installation of a COM+ application .MSI file fails. An "Error Occurred" dialog box comes up with the headline "Errors occurred while installing the following applications."  Then in the list box next to the name of your .MSI file this message is shown: "Error occurred reading the application file."

Solution: If built on an XP system Check the box for 1.0 format.

The advice outlined in the MSDN KB article 308940 should be followed first.  Was the MSI built on a XP system?  If so, recreate the .MSI but this time check the box that creates the package in 1.0 format.
